Kinja'd!!!

someone needed to tell the OEMs that the manual transmission isn’t quite ready to be abandoned yet with more than just picket fences and blog posts.

also, I got a great deal and possibly a second job working on the dealer’s awful website.

I’m going to miss my Volvo but I take peace of mind knowing I have a probably near bulletproof 2015 rather than a 2005, and I will save roughly the value of the Volvo in gas alone in the next 100k miles.

Reliability is always nice. Is that a Versa?

With the glare and upside-down wheel I thought it was some Volvo model, then I recognized the interior as not-a-Volvo, and realized it was a Nissan.

New is nice. Probably less personality than the Volvo though.

No way would I buy one of those in anything BUT a stick. Especially with so many car makers going to CVTs. Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy it. My B14 is pretty fun, but sadly falling apart. 230k miles does that. M/t ftw!

Yeah, they only offer the 6-speed on the S model. Its still pretty nicely equipped, has power windows/locks/mirrors, keyless entry, bluetooth, cruise, trip computer, a fairly nice sound system, LED lighting inside and out, the seats don’t seem to be made of rat’s ass fabric. It’s nice.

Yes, personality is one thing my S80 had in spades. I seem to be getting quite attached to this Sentra though, I like it. It’s comfortable, the shifter feels nice, its no turbo five cylinder of course but it feels like more than just a machine designed for a- to b.

In all honesty though you are saving the manuals and this will be much more reliable. Enjoy it while it still has the new car smell

It does smell new, haha. Had 10 miles on it when I test drove it. I left a part of me behind with that S80, it was a great car, full of personality. But every morning I woke up and I was like, uh, I hope nothing breaks today. My living situation means I wouldn’t be able to work on it if it broke down, so I’d be paying super expensive dealer/independent mechanic costs. I also typically drive 1000 miles every week and a half or so I’ll save a good $100 in gas per month, this ones’ already hitting 35 MPG (no more premium gas, woohoo!).

So yeah, not an S80. But still fun! And it’s going to get modified if I keep it for over a year, which I will need to to at least get some value out of buying new.

Mm hmm.

Note how this is a car advertised by the manufacturer as offering “premium cloth”

I’m pretty sure they ‘premium cloth’ moniker, as bullshit as it may be, is used on the SV/SL models without leather, as some sort of incentive for consumers to step up from the S. The front seats in this car seems virtually identical to the Versa SV but they’re comfortable and not unattractive, so that’s all that really matters.

The Sentra isn’t bad. I like that it looks like a baby Maxima/Altima now (the old car did too when it came out but was years overdue for a redesign). I’m not a fan of most CVTs which most Sentra come with - kudos on the manual! - and I wish the fuel door was on the correct side, but it’s preferable to a Chevy crude or corolla. I personally would have gone Mazda or Ford, but it’s reassuring to have a newer car, especially with a warranty.

Going from a 1990 765 Turbo I also gave up gobs of personality, but also the worry - that you touched on in another reply - about whether It would continue to be a reliable commuter.

You should. The cvt is terrible but the stick is nice. Enjoy it.

Thanks. I’ve driven rental cars with CVTs and that was enough to put me off them for life.

Lol, we think alike, us Volvo guys...I’m sure Vimto is happy with his new ride though!

They’re terrible.

I have a B14 entra, my mom a B16.

I have a 1.6 engine with a 5mt, she a 2.0 with the cvt.

I’m FAR faster than she is, I can actually get out in to traffic.

The new sentra isn’t as fun as the older ones, but still not bad. It’s a decent commuter car with a stick.

Enjoy the reliability, and it’s kinda fun too.

The B16 is the heaviest as well I believe, I think they made the B17 a bit lighter. I like my car, it feels like a good combination of well put together, comfortable, and a decent amount of fun thrown in. The shifter feels nicer than others I’ve used.

Correct. The B16 is 850 lbs heavier than my B14.

According to the paperwork my B17 is just under 2,800 lbs. I think the B16 was closer to 3,000 in base form.

3100 I think. Mine is 2300. Big difference.
